Product Review

ASUS’s latest ultra portable the ZenBook 3 is the major competitor to Apple’s 12-inch MacBook. Asus’s latest Zenbook laptop is even thinner and lighter than Apple’s 1kg wonder, but just as fast and comes with a remarkably long battery life. The Zenbook 3 also comes with a mini dock in the box, adding precisely the sort of ports you’d be missing on the MacBook. This is precisely the computer Windows-using travellers have been looking for.

The ZenBook 3 is not quiet the holy grail Windows users have been waiting for however. The keyboard and trackpad are not the most ergonomic, and the build quality is reasonable but not up to the premium quality of Apple’s products, something that you should really expect from a laptop that costs north of £1,000.  The Windows OS and excellent performance may make up for it if you are wedded to the Windows OS.

The ZenBook 3 is about the best Windows users can get in a compact performance laptop. Asus have managed to cram in superior and faster hardware than the latest Macbook Pro.  Although the build quality and ergonomic feel of the Asus is not comparable to that of the Macbook, if you are a Windows user this about as good as it gets.

  • Thin and light design comparable to the MacBook
  • As fast as other high-end ultraportables
  • Comes with a mini-dock for extra ports
  • Beautiful screen

  • Keyboard and trackpad are not the most comfortable for prolonged use
  • Fingerprint sensor placement in wrong place
  • Build quality not upto the Mac
